Bienvenidos a Puerto Vallarta!
The city of cobblestone streets, lush jungles and beautiful beaches welcomes you!
Unlike other vacation destinations, Puerto Vallarta was a traditional small town before being catapulted to fame as an international travel destination.
While a shipping port for silver and salt in the 19th century, the village was called “Puerto Las Peñas,” meaning “Rocky Port.” It was not until 1917, when it was granted the title of municipality, that the name was changed to Puerto Vallarta (after former state governor Ignacio Vallarta).
In 1963 it became known through John Huston`s movie remake of Tennessee William’s play “The Night of The Iguana” and the scandalous affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The constant publicity attracted foreign investors, and soon “PV” gained recognition as a popular travel destination for nationals and foreigners alike. Travelers can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels, B&Bs, resorts and vacation rentals – accommodation that fits every need and every budget.
Over the last ten years, however, more and more people see Puerto Vallarta as an opportunity to enjoy our spectacular sunsets all year round. Owning a second home or living full-time in Mexico is increasingly common and buying as well as selling property down here can be as safe and secure as in the United Status or Canada – if it is done correctly. In Puerto Vallarta’s constantly expanding real estate market you’ll find homes in every size and price range and experienced brokers and lawyers at your service.
PUERTO VALLARTA GUIDE
Ocean, world-class beaches, rivers, jungle, mountains – with a matchless environment and marvelous weather there’s no shortage of things to do in Vallarta:
>>>Dining
Whether it is German, French, Dutch, Indian, Argentinean, Italian or typical Mexican fare you are looking for, with several hundreds of restaurants, Puerto Vallarta is sure to offer something to your taste.
>>>Nightlife
From piano bars to salsa clubs that fill the air with Latin rhythms, from live rock, the Santa Barbara Theater and gay clubs with excellent shows in the Zona Romántica to dance clubs on the Malecón – PV nightlife offers a sizzling variety of music and entertainment.
>>>Guided snorkeling & diving tours
Its incredible sea life makes Banderas Bay a popular diving and snorkeling destination. Apart from whales, sea turtles, dolphins and manta rays there is a great variety of tropical fish for visitors to observe.
Take a trip south to Los Arcos National Marine Park or to the Marietas Islands, a protected marine life and bird sanctuary on the northern end of Banderas Bay, and discover Mexico’s incredible underwater world.
>>>Whale watching & turtle camp
From June to November sea turtles lay their eggs on Puerto Vallarta’s beaches. Protected nurseries are built on many beaches of our bay in order to help preserve these interesting and endangered animals. Visit a turtle camp and learn more about sea turtles, their life, the dangers threatening them and why they need to be protected.
From December to March, Banderas Bay is lucky to be the breeding ground for some of the most amazing creatures of the sea: the humpback whales. These incredible marine mammals spend the summer in cold polar waters and travel great distances in the winter to mate and calve in tropical water. A whale-watching tour is a unique experience for the whole family, since humpback whales are curious about objects in their environment and will often approach and circle boats. However, a mother whale will generally be extremely protective of her infant, placing herself between any boat and the calf. Responsible whale-watching operators avoid stressing the mother unduly, so please make sure to book with an authorized whale watching company.
>>>Fishing
Puerto Vallarta is ideally located in Banderas Bay, one of the best saltwater fishing areas in the World. Depending on the season you can expect to find ample stocks of sailfish, marlin, red snapper, swordfish, dorado and tuna in the ocean waters off the coast of Vallarta.
>>>Golf
Whether you’re playing in Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta or Punta de Mita, stunning views of both the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre Mountains, excellent layouts and friendly staff will make your game unforgettable.
Courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf, among others, provide challenges and enjoyment to players of all skill levels. This is one of the best ways to relax and enjoy your vacation.
>>>And more: tennis, horseback riding, sailing, canopy, jungle tours, trips to remote villages and virgin beaches, art galleries, theaters, concerts, museums…
The list is simply endless – come and discover all that Puerto Vallarta has to offer!
